ABOUT THE EVENT

La Société historique métisse, the Métis Historical Society, invites you to join us for a beautiful day rooted in history, land and water on Saturday, June 7, 2025, as we embark on a paddle along the picturesque Seine River Greenway. 

As we gather to celebrate the rich history of the Seine River, participants will experience the natural beauty, parks, wildlife and rich cultural heritage along its banks. Whether you are an experienced paddler or new to the sport, there is something everyone will enjoy as you navigate this cherished, urban river trail - an integral waterway to the history and traditions of the Métis people.

The Seine River has long been a crucial part of Métis history, serving as a vital transportation route, resource for the community and a playground for kids and the young at heart. As you journey along the river, you'll paddle in the wake of those who came before us, forging a connection to the past and an understanding of how the river has shaped the heritage and culture of the Métis.  By paddling through the meandering river, you can experience the vibrant history as the shoreline transitions through forests & parks, golf course greenspaces, and many neighborhoods of St. Vital and St. Boniface.

Set out on a journey of your choice, ranging from 5 to 17 kms, and take in the scenic wonders of the river. Volunteers stationed at each launch site will ensure a seamless experience by assisting with traffic control, boat unloading, parking, and registration. Our team will facilitate a relaxing adventure that leaves only the softest of traces on the river environment.  You river journey will conclude at The Rendez-Vous at the historic Lagimodière-Gaboury Park, where you can join in the lively community celebration filled with music, prizes, food, and warm comradery (a Manitoba social, but on the Seine).

We also gather to protect this river in the face of climate change and the ongoing pollution of freshwater worldwide. By participating in this event, you take important time to connect to the land, water and creatures, making a relational commitment to preserve this vital waterway and its surrounding environment. Through our collective efforts, we can safeguard the Seine River for generations to come.

As you paddle through the calm, winding river, you’ll enjoy Métis and Francophone cultural performances and soak in the vibrant history of the region. Your river journey will conclude at The Rendez-Vous at the historic Lagimodière-Gaboury Park, where you can join in the lively community celebration filled with music, prizes, food, and warm camaraderie (a Manitoba social, but on the Seine).

À PROPOS DE RENDEZ-VOUS RIVYAYR SEINE

La Société historique métisse (SHM) vous convie à une journée exceptionnelle, ancrée dans l’histoire, la terre et l’eau. Le samedi 7 juin 2025, nous embarquerons pour une balade en canot de la Rivière Seine.

En se rassemblant pour célébrer la riche histoire de la Rivière Seine, les participants découvriront la beauté naturelle, les parcs, la faune et le riche patrimoine culturel de la rivière. Que vous soyez un pagayeur expérimenté ou un novice, chacun trouvera son compte en naviguant la Rivière Seine, qui fait partie intégrante de l'histoire et des traditions du peuple Métis.

La Rivière Seine est depuis longtemps un élément crucial de l'histoire des Métis, servant de voie de transport essentielle, de ressource pour la communauté et de terrain de jeu pour les enfants et les jeunes de cœur. En longeant la rivière, vous pagayerez dans le sillage de ceux qui nous ont précédés, établissant ainsi un lien avec le passé et comprenant comment le fleuve a façonné le patrimoine et la culture des Métis. En pagayant dans les méandres de la rivière, vous pourrez faire l'expérience d'une histoire vibrante alors que la rivière traverse des forêts et des parcs, des espaces verts de terrains de golf et de nombreux quartiers de Saint-Vital et de Saint-Boniface.

Choisissez votre propre aventure, avec des trajets allant de 5 à 17 km, et profitez de la beauté unique de la rivière. En pagayant sur la rivière, vous pourrez profiter de performances culturelles métisses et francophones et vous immerger dans l’histoire vibrante de la région. Votre voyage se terminera au Rendez-Vous au parc historique Lagimodière-Gaboury, où vous pourrez participer à une célébration communautaire animée, avec de la musique, des prix, des rafraichissements,  et une chaleureuse camaraderie (un social manitobain, mais sur la Seine).

Nous nous réunissons également pour protéger cette rivière face au changement climatique et à la pollution continue de l'eau douce dans le monde entier. En participant à cet événement, vous prenez le temps de vous connecter à la terre, à l'eau et aux créatures, en vous engageant à préserver la Rivière Seine et son environnement. Grâce à nos efforts collectifs, nous pouvons sauvegarder la Rivière Seine pour les générations à venir.

Tout en pagayant sur la rivière, vous assisterez à des spectacles culturels métis et francophones et vous vous imprégnerez de l'histoire vibrante de la région. Votre voyage sur la rivière se terminera par le Rendez-Vous au parc historique Lagimodière-Gaboury, où vous pourrez participer à une célébration communautaire animée avec de la musique, des prix, de la nourriture délicieuse et une camaraderie chaleureuse (une fête sociale manitobaine, mais sur la Seine).
